| ABSTRACT: This study investigated the occurrence of antibodies for BVDV-1 in swine herds located in the region of Mossoró city of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. A sample size of 412 animals was estimated assuming unknown prevalence (set at 50%). Virus neutralization assay was used to the detect the presence of antibodies for BVDV-1 and the results found were analysed using multivariable logistic regression model. The obtained prevalence was 4% at animal level and 45% at the animal and herd level. The titers were highly variable between animals and within farms. | The time-mean Argo float displacements and the World Ocean Atlas 2009 temperature–salinity climatology are used to obtain the total, top to bottom, mass transports. Outside of an equatorial band, the total transports are the sum of the vertical integrals of geostrophic- and wind-driven Ekman currents. However, these transports are generally divergent, and to obtain a mass conserving circulation, a Poisson equation is solved for the streamfunction with Dirichlet boundary conditions at solid boundaries. The value of the streamfunction on islands is also part of the unknowns. | Clay mineral assemblages in a sediment core from the distal Nile discharge plume off Israel have been used to reconstruct the late Quaternary Nile sediment discharge into the eastern Mediterranean Sea (EMS). The record spans the last ca. 140 kyr. Smectite abundances indicate the influence of the Blue Nile and the Atbara River that have their headwaters in the volcanic rocks of the Ethiopian Highlands. Kaolinite abundances indicate the influence of wadis, which contribute periodically to the suspension load of the Nile. | O objetivo deste artigo é analisar os projetos territoriais elaborados no Território Serra do Brigadeiro, Minas Gerais, no período de 2003 a 2010, buscando identificar as características e contribuições dos mesmos para inovações nas concepções de desenvolvimento rural. Foram identificados os tipos de investimento e a percepção dos atores territoriais acerca dos projetos e das concepções de desenvolvimento que os fundamenta. | O estudo analisou incoerências sociais e culturais entre saberes escolares e familiares sobre as perspectivas profissionais de estudantes rurais de Ensino Médio através das percepções de professores e estudantes. De abordagem qualitativa, o trabalho foi conduzido como estudo de caso e amostrado por meio institucional, realizado no município de Tio Hugo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, em outubro de 2014. | As Terras Pretas dos Índios são encontradas em diversos pontos da Floresta Amazônica, onde viviam muitas tribos. Estudar as Terras Pretas é estudar uma biomassa resultante da decomposição de todo aquele lixão indígena, que os nossos antigos índios enterraram. Milhares de anos se passaram e hoje existe um pool internacional de instituições de pesquisa que se dedica a buscar uma forma de reproduzir essa terra tão fértil, num curto intervalo de tempo e de modo economicamente viável buscando transformar os lixões em biocombustível e/ou insumo agrícola. | For scientists working on gonochoric organisms, determining sex can be crucial for many biological questions and experimental studies, such as crossbreeding, but it can also be a challenging task, particularly when no sexual dimorphism is visible or cannot be directly observed. In metazoan parasites of the genus Schistosoma responsible for schistosomiasis, sex is genetically determined in the zygote with a female heterogametic ZW/ZZ system.
